A CNL2 VIDEO IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE

Steve Bowman is a Voter Services Officer with the League of Women Voters of the San Juans. He joined Heather Spaulding, Editor of the Journal of the San Juans Islands, and CNL2’s Jeff Noedel in a panel discussion on Tuesday, June 25 at noon.

The conversation begins on the topic of election security, and the panel’s shared opinion that elections administered in San Juan County are fair and reliable.

At 8:15 into the discussion, Steve gives a brief history of the League of Women Voters, and the many services they provide, including “TRY” (acronym for “They Represent You”) brochure.

(14:30) Steve invites more people to volunteer with the League.

(16:30) Steve says San Juan County voter turnout for the biggest elections can top out as high as 92 percent of all registered votes. In presidential elections, he said San Juan County goes back and forth with Jefferson County for the highest voter engagement in the state.

He said of the County’s high levels of participation, “People just accept the fact that it’s their responsibility and do it.”

(17:30) Steve is asked how the local League is funded.

(18:30) He said the League stands for civil conversation. The interview continues on that subject tomorrow in Part 2.
