WSF Comments Today on Crewing Challenges Impacting Inter-island Route
CNL2 reached out to Washington State Ferries (WSF) management today for any insights into the increasing frequency of canceled evening service of the San Juans inter-island route.
Ian Sterling, Public Information Officer at WSF, kindly and promptly replied.
“We prioritize the San Juan Islands over other routes… However, there remains a worldwide shortage of trained mariners and getting replacement crew to the location can take some time. We realize the inconvenience and frustration this causes customers and continue to explore ways to ensue there is a minimum of disruptions. Getting crew the experience and training required to work senior positions is a big part of this,” he said in an email reply to CNL2.
