The good news: according to Washington State Ferry (WSF) data from January 1st to May 12th, 98 percent of sailings were completed (not always on time). Almost 60 new deck employees have been hired. A special shuttle for WSF crew at the beginning and end of watches (shifts) has also made a positive difference. And WSF intends for revisions in the master schedule of sailings in the San Juan — including more forgiving dwell times between sailings — to positively impact its reputation for on-time performance.

Steve Nevey, Assistant Secretary for Washington State Ferries, is the new head of the largest ferry system in the U.S. John Vezina is WSF’s Director of Planning, Customer and Government Relations. These two leaders spent one-half hour with CNL2’s Jeff Noedel Tuesday (May 14, 2024).

We appreciate these two leaders making time to respond to many of the questions and concerns about the quality of the “marine highway” expressed by the people of the San Juans.

This CNL2 video is approximately 31 minutes in duration.
