SanJuans.Today reached out to some local residents with the question “What is your New Year’s resolution for an organization dear to you?” Here’s what we got back (in order received):

Dr. Riki Ott, Founder, ALERT Project
“ALERT Project resolves to better protect our emergency responders by initiating rule-makings to revise the Washington state and federal OSHA HAZWOPER standards.”

Eric Peter, Sheriff, San Juan County
“Our goal is to get fully staffed with qualified candidates. We currently need to fill 4 deputy position, 1 corrections/courthouse security position, and 1 dispatch position to ease the burden on our already over-extended staff and to better serve our community.”

Jennifer Armstrong, Executive Director, Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center
“In 2025, the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary as a nonprofit!  Our resolution is to be ready to serve our community for another twenty-five years, and to continue creating positive, caring connections between islanders of all backgrounds.  A goal: we’d love to find 25 generous, forward-thinking community donors who want to help guarantee our future operations with “anniversary gifts” of $25,000!  (we wouldn’t turn down $25, $250 or $2,500 donations either!)

Maureen See
“The Joyce L Sobel FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER celebrates 25 years of service this year to our community. We are a better, stronger Island because of the FRC. Stay tuned for our celebration event. FRC is an amazing organization.”

Brandon Andrews, San Juan County Parks & Fair Director
“The San Juan Parks, Recreation, and Fair Department’s resolution is to operate the best campgrounds in San Juan County and put on the best little fair in the West!”

It’s not too late to add your New Year’s Resolution for a beloved nonprofit or government agency. Send it to us here.
