Mayor Ray Jackson on the Sacred Meaning of Memorial Day (includes this morning’s parade footage)
A CNL2 VIDEO IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
Raymont “Ray” Jackson is the kind of person who ends up in leadership positions. In addition to Mayor, one of several fraternal organizations and service organizations in which he has a leadership position is American Legion Post 163 in Friday Harbor. He currently serves as 2nd Vice Commander.
And he is the rare veteran of not one or two, but three branches of the U.S. military — Navy, Army, and Air Force.
In this Memorial Day afternoon interview, Jackson explains the day’s ceremonies on San Juan Island, the good works of Post 163, the welcoming policies toward potential new members, sons of service persons, and wives of service persons. He speaks of the strong support for veterans he feels across the broader island community. And he reflects on his own military career.
This CNL2 video is approximately 20 minutes in duration.
