AFTER 242 YEARS: bald eagle officially named U.S. ‘national bird’

Some Americans think the national bird is the majestic turkey. But almost all think it’s the bald eagle. But neither has been true, until Christmas Eve. That’s when President Joe Biden signed a new law declaring the bald eagle the official national bird of the United States of America.

The bald eagle first made its way onto the Great Seal of the United States in 1782. But the government only got around to making it official two days ago.
