In Saturday’s Fix Our Ferries legislative summit, the following two graphics were mentioned several times. State Senator Marko Llias described them as “something even a legislator can understand.”
Developed by Washington State Ferries with the help of labor unions, these two graphics show the many steps, and years needed, to climb the ranks for deck employees as well as engine room employees.
Both graphics show the progression to the top jobs on the vessels.
In his September 17, 2024 meeting with leaders and citizens at the Brickworks conference center in Friday Harbor, Governor Jay Inslee said he hopes more WSF vessel employees will again someday reside in the islands. Experts have said that having more employees who reside in the islands would improve service here.
