UPDATE: Swinomish Casino and Restaurants Reopen After 19-day Impact of Cybersecurity Incident

UPDATED THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 2024: Late yesterday, Wed., Apr. 23, Swinomish Casino & Lodge reopened the casino, dining, and lodging facilities after being closed for 19 days due to a cyberattack.

To entice customers back, the property is increasing “promo play” offers and promotions for all guests until the end of May.

The Swinomish Casino & Lodge is owned and operated by the Swinomish Tribe, a community of Coast Salish peoples, who are descendants of groups and bands originating in the Skagit and Samish River valleys and the surrounding coastal areas and islands, including Fidalgo, Camano, Whidbey and the San Juan Islands.

The gaming property started as a small bingo operation in 1985. In 1990, they began negotiations for a gaming license, and a Compact was signed with the State of Washington in December 1992. The casino, built next to the bingo hall, opened on July 15, 1994.

UPDATED APRIL THURSDAY, 11, 2024: In a statement posted on their website, Swinomish Casino and Lodge at 12885 Casino Dr. in Anacortes has posted the following message on their home page: “Swinomish Casino & Lodge is temporarily closed while we investigate a cybersecurity incident that has affected our operations. Please click below for more information.”

All but the property’s gas station-convenience store and the RV park were closed abruptly on Friday, April 5. The casino and lodge have been closed since.

The property is providing additional details today:

“We are investigating a cybersecurity incident that has affected our operations.

The casino and restaurants on our property are all temporarily closed. We will resume our loyalty and rewards program when the casino reopens.

While the lodge and RV park are open, we are only able to honor existing reservations at this time. Lodge guests impacted by this incident will also receive a refund as appropriate.

We do not yet have an estimate on when our facilities will reopen.  We are working as quickly as possible to restore operations and will provide updates on this website and on our Facebook page as our systems come back online.

In the meantime, we are working with law enforcement and leading cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and determine the scope of the issue. If we learn data was impacted by this incident, we will contact affected individuals as soon as possible. While our investigation continues, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that individuals remain vigilant by checking their account statements and monitoring their free credit reports for any suspicious activity.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this issue has caused our valued guests, employees, and members of Swinomish community.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this matter.”
