If you read The Seattle Times, click here to read a 330-word essay written by Rebecca Anne “Becca” Bryan, 18, of San Juan Island.

In a guest article The Times titled “2024 grad thrived, grew to know herself during pandemic,” Becca explained that she thrived during the period of Covid isolation. She writes of the upside — in her case — of maintaining friendships online. Becca has a medical condition she explains in the article.

The Times featured reflections of students from three other high schools in Western Washington. Like Becca, all the students’ essays focused on the era of online education during Covid.

Becca Bryan graduated Friday Harbor High School last Saturday, with honors at both the Friday Harbor High School level and the Washington State level for academic achievement in the top 10 percent of the Washington State graduating class.

The excellence of Friday Harbor High School is visible in the many extraordinary achievements of the students — across all classes and grades. Becca’s being published in the state’s newspaper of record is just one more sign: Friday Harbor schools — in partnership with strong families — produce excellent results in students’ character and achievement.
