CNL2 EXCLUSIVE! Introducing Mr. Fix-it to Help You Fix Stuff!
CNL2 is proud to introduce “Mr. Fix-it” — starring San Juan Island resident Robert Hoole. The show is directed by Jeremy Tyler.
Robert has three decades of professional experience in home repairs and problem-solving. His first home repair success was in his family’s kitchen at the age of nine. He had been watching his father, an electrician, make repairs around the home.
Robert’s style of teaching homeowners (and renters) is clear and patient. His eagerness to share his expertise on home repair is also being harnessed as one of Friday Harbor’s Ace Hardware‘s newest public-facing employees.
The pilot episode is focused on clearing a clogged trap under a sink. Episode #2 will address a different kind of clog, the kind that is related to a worn-out bathroom sink “pop-up drain.”
Robert wants to take the mystery out of basic home repairs. He wants to help people stop coping with minor problems, and start fixing them. Often, he notes, problems can be fixed with a straightforward explanation and a visual demonstration, long before a professional needs to be called in.
He also observes that we live in “a throw-away culture,” which is unfortunate because repair parts can be surprisingly easy and very affordable. Additionally, he notes that many older fixtures and appliances are built better than their newer counterparts. Extending the life of older objects allows people to avoid the pitfalls of some manufacturers’ cynical practice of “planned obsolescence.”
Mr. Fix-it is a production of CNL2.
