The biggest gift to a theatre cast is a full house laughing, smiling, and standing in approval at the performance’s conclusion.

The San Juan Community Theatre’s Theatre Arts for Kids presents “Guys and Dolls Junior.” Three minutes into the performance, the cast of 30 local children will convince you that you chose wisely to be there.

You’re guaranteed a two-hour-long smile, some laughs, and some amazing moments of song, dance, and comedy.

Shout outs to Seqoia Bair (Miss Alelaide), Liam DeYoung (Nicely Nicely Johnson), Azariah Frease (Nathan Detroit), Remy Joplin (Big Jule), Jodie Wehner (Sarah Brown), and Owen Wight (Sky Masterson). Young Jack Bashaw (Lt. Brannigan) was perfect casting.

Time flies as the cast nails 17 choreographed songs. A section of tap dance thrilled the crowd. Seqoia Bair’s singing and comedic timing is noteworthy. The fan dance is fun and well-executed. The sets are great, the lighting and sound are great.

Minute after minute, this performance thrills.

In the afterglow of Friday night’s performance, Director Chiara Power told CNL2, “I’m just super, super proud of these kids. They’ve only had 13 rehearsals to do this. They’ve had 2-1/2 weeks. They got their roles on the first Monday at camp. And they’re kind human beings, also. They’re kind, kind, kind. Funny, intelligent, and obviously talented. I’m beyond proud. This is my favorite thing.”

Then Sondra Bayley approached Chiara nearly in tears. “I am beyond moved,” she said. “The choreography! All of it!”

Performances are tonight (Sat., Aug. 10) at 7:00 p.m., and tomorrow (Sunday) at 2:00 p.m.
