San Juan Island’s #1 shutterbug David Corry drove to Olympia Monday to witness his son once again raising his right hand and swearing to protect the Constitution as a leader in the 2025-26 biennial session of the Washington State House of Representatives.

Republican Chris Corry was first elected to the House in 2018. He represents the 14th District, which includes all or parts of four South-central Washington counties, the southern part of the City of Yakima, as well as the City of Kennewick.
Corry returns to the new session in his familiar role as #2 Deputy Leader leadership among the House Republicans. Leadership positions in the legislature are chosen by a vote of their caucus (members according to party affiliation).
Republicans are in the minority in both the Washington House of Representatives and the State Senate. While Democrats win many votes, Republicans are the loyal opposition — providing an alternative, competing worldview and finding the occasional opportunity to work across the aisle on bipartisan legislation.
One bipartisan bill already introduced in this new session, on the Senate side, is SB 5075. That proposed law would reduce financial barriers to pre- or postnatal healthcare in Washington. It’s co-sponsored by Democrat Senator Annette Cleveland (Vancouver) and Republican Senator Ron Muzzall (Oak Harbor).
