SEATTLE TIMES: CenturyLink fined for leaving WA customers on hold too long

CenturyLink, the largest telephone company in Washington, has been fined $133,000 for “excessive” call wait times and disclosure violations, according to a The Seattle Times article penned by staff reporter Caitlyn Freeman.

The fines were levied by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.

Washington state law prescribes acceptable response times for telephone calls to business offices or repair centers during regular business hours. That law can be read here.

According to the UTC website, in March 2024, the UTC staff recommended a $252,000 penalty for CenturyLink. A UTC news release is here.
