The San Juans are home to some of the most interesting people in the world. John J. Nance is one of them.
This is the third of a three-part interview of a humble, good-humored, and brilliant man who is also our neighbor. It’s also the story of a person who became comfortable with enormous responsibility in several national and international fields.
Part 3 of this conversation starts with Jeff asking John why he has accomplished so much in so many different careers.
At (2:00) minutes into the discussion, John explains how he writes a novel. (John has written 23 books, both fiction and non-fiction).
(4:30) “You’re not going to retire, are you?”
(6:30) “If you had to pick one of your six careers, which one would you pick?”
(8:30) “Tell us about your family — your kids. And your lovely wife Lisa DeJardin.
(9:30) “Public speaking, Ted Talk, network television… Do you ever get nervous?”
(12:20) Jeff explains how an article written by Heather caused John to contact Jeff about the new CNL2. John has a dream of bringing a small radio show in Friday Harbor akin to the fictitious radio show portrayed in the 1990s hit television show Northern Exposure.
(19:00) There is so much potential for live community Internet television, too.
(22:00) John is Chairperson of CNL2 Media, now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Washingotn corporation. John is asked, “What can CNL2 (now named SanJuans.Today) be?”
(24:00) John answers the question, “Is San Juan County too small to have its own community television?”
