Extradition of Suspect for Residential Burglary Charges

FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT BY SAN JUAN COUNTY SHERIFF ERIC PETER

On December 28, 2022, a deputy with the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office (SJC) initiated an investigation into a potential felony crime on Orcas Island. The investigation revealed that the suspect had left Washington State. After a thorough investigation, the deputy determined there was probable cause to charge the suspect with Residential Burglary in the Second Degree.

The case was subsequently forwarded to the San Juan County Prosecutor’s Office on November 14, 2022, and a warrant for the suspect’s arrest was issued on December 19, 2022.

On October 6, 2024, the suspect was apprehended by the Gilbert Police Department in Arizona, who held him in Maricopa County Jail pending extradition to Washington. On January 12, 2025, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant and Detective traveled to Arizona, where they took custody of the suspect on January 14, 2025, and transported him back to San Juan County to face charges.

We would like to express our gratitude to the investigating deputy, the Gilbert Police Department, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, and our own Sergeant and Detective for their exceptional teamwork and perseverance in bringing this individual back to San Juan County to stand trial for his crime.
