Following is an editorial by CNL2 Co-Founder, President and Publisher Jeff Noedel:
A key leader in the State has recently said of the state of Washington State Ferries (WSF), “A year ago, we were in crisis … (now) we’re in recovery.” Other leaders have been more blunt: “The crisis is over,” they say.
Regarding ferry service in the San Juans, the crisis is not over.
Cancelation of inter-island service for parts of four days in a nine-day period* disqualifies any credible claim that the crisis in ferry service in the San Juans is behind us.
While we are deeply grateful for the best efforts of WSF leadership and other leaders in the State Government — and we believe their diligent recruiting efforts are definitely on the right track, we respectfully disagree that the crisis is behind us.
To say the crisis is over is at extreme odds with the current lived experience in the San Juans.
*Inter-island service was canceled for several hours this morning and again this evening (Wednesday, July 3), and the entirety of last evening (Tuesday, July 2), as well as the evenings of Wednesday, June 26, and Tuesday, June 25.
