ONE DAY LEFT: Community Water Taxi urges citizens to email or phone legislators in support of HB 1923

FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT OF COMMUNITY WATER TAXI

We continue to shape and support legislation to help our local ferry crisis. We are asking for your support for HB1923, “The Mosquito Fleet Act”, which will provide funding for passenger transportation initiatives in San Juan County and beyond. If passed, this bill would provide more permanent funding for interisland walk-on service that has been a critical lifeline.

Community Water Taxi (CWT) has supported and established funding for this service. The bill could establish a walk-on connection to Bellingham and potentially reopen a Sidney walk-on service. Yes, both of these routes may see some tourism traffic increases, but they would also help with reconnecting families and heritage (Sidney) and increase access to medical care for all our residents (Bellingham).

HB1923 needs to get out of committee by vote this Wednesday evening, February 19. A representative of CWT will give testimony remotely at the hearing.

You can call to register your support to your LD40 representatives, Sen. Liz Lovelett 360-786-7678, Rep. Alex Ramel 360-786-7970, and Rep. Debra Lekanoff 360-786-7800.

You can write, you may use the link which will send your comments on this bill to your Legislative District 40 reps. https://app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill/1923

What is most helpful are personal stories of the impact of the ferry crisis on your life. The deadline is Wednesday.

Thank you for your support of water taxi in our community.
