If you’ve driven on I-5 near Bellingham, you might have noticed fewer British Columbia license plates.

Canadian national broadcaster CBC News is reporting that 500,000 fewer Canadians traveled into the U.S. in February. BCB attributes the drop to “The data shows there was a sudden reversal in February, just as U.S. President Donald Trump was “launching his trade war and ramping up his annexationist rhetoric about Canada becoming the 51st state.”

The reduction in border crossings by Canadians was across the entire 5,500-mile-long border between the two neighboring nations. The CBC reports that crossing suddenly dropped back to Covid-era lows.

Businesses across Western Washington, including all aspects of the tourism sector, could be impacted.

The CBC report is here.
