SPECIAL GUEST DROPPED IN THIS AFTERNOON: State Representative The Hon. Alex Ramel
A CNL2 VIDEO IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
State Representative Alex Ramel (he says it rhymes with “camel”) is a Democrat who lives in Bellingham. And he is one of the San Juans’ two state representatives in Washington’s 40th legislative district. Mr. Ramel is running for reelection unopposed this year, so there’s an excellent chance he will serve in that position another two years.
This interview begins by discussing one of the reasons he visited San Juan County today: challenges and solutions to solid waste management and recycling on islands. Inevitably, the conversation turns to climate change.
At approximately (6:15) into the discussion, Rep. Ramel passionately defends the state’s Climate Commitment Act and is asked how the state legislature would react to losing the $16 billion in funding over the next 15 years if Initiative 2117 is passed by voters.
(11:00) Ramel discusses his “three-legged stool” plan to address the state’s affordable housing crisis.
(18:00) Representative Ramel was asked in the final minutes what his other job is (state rep is not a full-time job), and to tell us a bit about his personal life.
We thanked him and his assistant Amanda for arranging his appearance today on short notice.
This CNL2 video is approximately 21-1/2 minutes in duration.
