County Council Candidate Justin Paulsen Discusses WSF, Tourism, Construction, Affordable Housing and More
CNL2 VIDEO AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE
Justin Paulsen lives on Orcas Island, owns a construction company, is a husband and father, and has served on the Washington State Ferries (WSF) Ferry Advisory Committee (FAC) for four years. He is now chairperson of that group. And he has filed as a candidate for Residency District 2 for the San Juan County Council.
The discussion of ferry issues runs from the beginning of the interview to approximately the 36:00 minute mark.
Next, the discussion turned to tourism, then the importance of the construction industry in the San Juans and issues in the County’s Community Development & Planning Department (starting at 46:00 minutes).
The discussion of construction morphed into a discussion of affordable housing policy. At approximately 1:08 hours, the conversation turned toward the key issue of conservation and sustainability. At 1:10 hours, the topic was the County budget and what Paulsen feels is going to be a challenge in 2025.
In the final minutes, Paulsen was asked about Opalco’s proposed Bailer Hill solar microgrid, and the subject of emergency preparedness, which looped back to preservation. He was also asked about the conflict between the County and the Town of Friday Harbor over water usage at the County Fairgrounds.
This CNL2 video is approximately 86 minutes in duration.
Pre-Council the Board of County Commissioners were all elected county-wide. This not something new if you research historic county politics/elections.
Excellent interview, Justin, and host! I couldn’t be prouder of how articulate and objective you are, and I know, if elected to this position, you will have the best interest of All residents of San Juan County in your decisions!
